My Elvie Pump Review
The Elvie breast pump was one of the first true wearable breast pumps to hit the market when it launched back in 2018. And while it was groundbreaking at the time with its fully in-bra design, app control, and near-silent motor I do think it’s starting to show its age.
That said, there’s still a lot to like. The Elvie is still the the quietest wearable breast pump available today, which makes it ideal for discreet pumping at work or in shared spaces. It’s also sleek and app integrated, with minimal parts and no external tubing or wires to worry about.
But, is the Elvie Pump worth it?

What I Love About the Elvie Pump
For a wearable pump, the Elvie includes several thoughtful features that still make it a solid option, especially if quiet pumping and simplicity are high on your list.
As with any true wearable breast pump, the Elvie breast pump has no cords, tubing, or external motor, so it fits entirely in your bra. It’s lightweight, sleek, and designed to move with you, whether you’re working, running errands, or managing a busy household.
What really sets it apart is just how silent it is. Thanks to its piezoelectric pump motor (a unique design feature you won’t find in most other pumps), the Elvie remains one of the quietest options on the market. It operates with a gentle hum that’s barely noticeable—even in quiet rooms—which is ideal if you need to pump discreetly.
The Elvie also includes built-in app integration. While it’s not the most advanced app available, it does allow you to track your sessions, monitor milk volume in real time, and switch between stimulation and expression modes. Performance and Efficiency
The Elvie breast pump offers a simplified setup when it comes to performance. It features 2 pumping modes, stimulation and expression, and 7 suction levels that can be adjusted within each mode.
With a maximum suction strength of 220mmHg, the Elvie falls on the gentler end of the spectrum. While this can be comfortable for many users, especially those with sensitivity or who prefer a light touch, it may not provide enough intensity for moms who need stronger stimulation to achieve letdown or maintain supply.
The suction rhythm is fixed and doesn’t offer any custom cycle adjustments or mixed modes. Unlike more advanced pumps that allow you to tweak the speed and strength separately, the Elvie uses a pre-set pattern that’s consistent across sessions but may feel limiting for those who prefer more control over their pumping routine.
If you’re pumping a few times a day for convenience or on the go, the performance is likely sufficient. But if you’re exclusively pumping or need a pump with stronger or more customizable suction patterns, the Elvie’s limited settings may not fully meet your needs.

Each pump weighs around 230g, making it lighter than many other wearables. The curved shape helps it sit comfortably in most nursing bras. While it’s not invisible under tight tops, it’s discreet enough for everyday wear.
The pump uses reusable 5oz milk bottles rather than a collection cup. If you are using this pump for work or pumping on the go, I think the 5oz bottles are also great as they make for easy milk storage.
With just five parts per side, the Elvie is quick to assemble and clean. The simple, compact layout helps streamline your routine, especially if you’re pumping multiple times a day.

Comfort
If a breast pump isn’t comfortable, it’s hard to stick with it—especially when you’re pumping multiple times a day. So when looking at comfort, the Elvie Pump offers a few key features that help, but also some trade-offs to be aware of.
The breast shields are made from hard BPA-free plastic, and are available in 21mm, 24mm, and 28mm sizes. Included in your box is a 24mm flange and a 28mm flange, so if you need the smaller 21mm flange size, you’ll need to purchase it separately.
If you’re someone who needs a smaller fit or more cushioning, Elvie also sells soft silicone nipple cushions that fit inside the 24mm shield. These are available in 15mm, 17mm, and 19mm sizes and can help reduce discomfort for those with smaller nipples or extra sensitivity. Third-party inserts are also compatible if you prefer an alternative to Elvie’s own accessories.
While the shields themselves are firm, the lightweight, curved design of the pump helps it sit comfortably in most nursing bras. The even weight distribution and smooth outer shell make it easy to wear during daily tasks without pinching or shifting.
Noise Levels

User-Friendliness
Each pump has a simple button interface that allows you to power the pump on, switch between stimulation and expression modes, and adjust the suction level, all without needing to use the app. The button is small but responsive, and the controls are easy to learn after a few sessions.
Where things get a little tricky is the lack of a display screen. There’s no LED screen on the pump to show you which mode you’re in, what suction level you’ve selected, or how long you’ve been pumping. So unless you’re using the app, you’ll need to rely on memory or guesswork to track your session in real time.
That’s where the Elvie app comes in. It’s optional, but helpful. It gives you access to features like session tracking, battery level, and real-time volume estimates. While the milk volume reading isn’t always perfectly accurate, it’s a useful guide, especially if you’re trying to avoid overfilling the collection bottle. Portability
Each pump provides up to 150 minutes of use per full charge, which translates to about five to six pumping sessions. This makes it a practical option for daily use—especially if you’re pumping a few times throughout the day—but you’ll likely need to recharge it every evening.
Charging takes around 2 hours per pump, and each pump charges individually via USB. There’s no dual charging dock or case included, so if you’re pumping on the go, you’ll need to bring both charging cables with you.
While the battery isn’t the longest-lasting in the wearable category, it’s enough for most moms looking for a compact, in-bra pump that offers true flexibility without cords.
Value for Money
At around $550 USD for the Elvie double pump, this is one of the more expensive wearable breast pumps on the market. Whilst I love that this pump is ultra-quiet and has app connectivity, I do think it offers limited value, especially when you compare it to other app integrated pumps like the Momcozy M9.

What I Wish Was Different
While the Elvie Pump gets a lot right in terms of design and discretion, there are a few areas where it falls short—especially compared to newer wearable pumps.
- No LED Display: One of the biggest drawbacks is the lack of an on-pump screen. There’s no LED display to show your suction level, pumping mode, or session time. Everything has to be tracked either through the app or by memory. This can be inconvenient—particularly during night sessions or when your phone isn’t nearby.
- Limited Control Options: The Elvie offers just 2 modes (stimulation and expression) and 7 suction levels, with no way to adjust the rhythm or cycle speed. While the controls are simple, they’re also restrictive. If you’re used to customizing your letdown pattern or want more flexibility in your settings, the Elvie may feel limited.
- Gentle Suction Strength: With a maximum suction of around 220mmHg, the Elvie falls on the gentler side. It’s comfortable for many, but may not be strong enough for exclusive pumping or boosting supply. There’s no hospital-grade suction here, and the fixed rhythm can feel too mild for some users.
- Premium Price Tag: At around $550 USD for the double pump, the Elvie is one of the most expensive wearable pumps on the market. And while it offers strong design and convenience, you’re paying a premium for quiet operation and a sleek build—not advanced performance or high suction power.
These limitations don’t take away from what the Elvie wearable pump does well—but they are important to consider if you’re after more power, control, or on-device feedback in your daily pumping routine.
The Verdict
If you’re looking for a wearable breast pump that offers gentle suction and super quiet operation, the Elvie Pump is a solid choice.
It’s discreet, lightweight, and easy to wear around the house, at work, or while multitasking—without cords, tubing, or noise to get in your way. The design is sleek, the app integration is helpful, and the overall experience is about as hands-free and low-fuss as it gets.
That said, it’s not the most powerful or customizable pump on the market. With just two modes, limited suction settings, no on-device display, and a higher price tag, it may not be the best fit for exclusive pumpers or those needing hospital-grade performance.
But if comfort, convenience, and near-silent pumping are your top priorities, and you don’t mind trading off some power and control, the Elvie Pump is still a standout option—especially for part-time or on-the-go use.
